Senator George Mitchell (New York and Washington, DC), Chairman of the Global Board of DLA Piper and former Senate Majority Leader, is the recipient of the 2008 Distinguished Service Award from the United States Association of Former Members of Congress. The award, recognizing Senator Mitchell as "a true American patriot and global leader," was presented to him during a ceremony in the Chamber of the House of Representative in Washington. In addition to his highly respected Senate career, Senator Mitchell was recognized for his energy and skilled diplomacy in forging the historic peace accord in Northern Ireland. The organization presents the annual award to a current or former member of Congress.
