Courtney Stewart, Austin, Litigation
Courtney is a member of both the Austin Pro Bono Committee and the national Pro Bono Committee. Courtney’s most significant contributions to pro bono have come through her involvement with the Appleseed Foundation and Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas (VLS). Courtney assisted the Appleseed Foundation in conducting a first-of-its-kind report on parental involvement in education focusing on the implications of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. The report was released in 2006 to federal and state policy makers and highlighted the challenges educators face in engaging parents and included a list of best practices for education policy makers. As a VLS attorney, Courtney helps low-income individuals and families with a wide variety of civil legal problems. Courtney is a two-time recipient of the Judge Suzanne Covington Pro Bono Service Award honoring attorneys for their outstanding commitment to pro bono and assisted pro se legal services in Travis County, Texas. In 2006, Courtney was honored as a Firmwide Pro Bono Winner.
