Jeff Coopersmith, Seattle, LitigationJeff's pro bono practice primarily involves the representation of immigrants seeking political asylum and the representation of indigent criminal defendants in federal court. Through Jeff's relationship with and support of the Northwest Immigration Rights Project (NWIRP), Jeff has represented and supervised associates in litigating political asylum cases in the immigration courts. Jeff has long had an interest in this area; his current work is a continuation of the political asylum work he did with the Lawyer's Committee for Human Rights as a young lawyer in Washington, D.C. in the early to mid-1990's before he became a federal prosecutor. Jeff also believes very strongly in contributing to the cause of equal criminal justice in the community, and for this reason takes on indigent federal criminal defendants on a court-appointed basis.
